Taigh Cearsabhagh Ceilidh

Liam Crouse and Peigi MacVicar joined Robbie Thomson on stage in the Taigh Cearsabhagh cafe for a fantastic evening of song and poetry. We discussed the role of the Gaelic oral tradition in documenting changing times and keeping memories alive, and opened the floor to audience’s experiences of lockdown.

The discussion was varied, some people enjoyed the free time that was afforded to them in the good weather of Spring 2020, while others struggled with loneliness, boredom and worry for elderly relatives.

Liam sang a couple of pieces that he’d written during lockdown, including Oran mun Bhìoras (Virus Song) - here’s a recording of that piece:

Peigi’s selections included a number of pieces that talked of change and turmoil in the Gàidhealtachd. Dearrsadh gealaich air Loch Hòstadh (Moonlight on Loch Hosta) evokes the memories to be found in landscapes and the longing for the people that have left it.

Thanks very much to Liam and Peigi for performing at the celiidh and to everyone at Taigh Chearsabhagh for hosting.
